For many years, Stan's Automotive has been a trusted name in Lafayette. Yet, few are aware of the fascinating story behind it all.
Back in 1973, Stan Elmore and Wally Prather joined forces to establish Stan's Tire Shoppe in Lafayette. Fresh out of high school and newly married to Donna, Stan had previously worked at Wally's George Oil gas station during his high school years. At the time, Wally was a major tire wholesaler in the Front Range region but lacked a retail presence. Stan, despite his limited business experience as a former grocery clerk in Lake Wales, Florida, had a vision. He saw a need for a tire store in Lafayette, and with Wally's tire inventory and a suitable location, they formed a partnership, and Stan's was born.
While Stan may have lacked business polish, he compensated with determination and unwavering integrity. As a young entrepreneur, he surrounded himself with exceptional individuals who helped him navigate the world of business and expand his enterprise.
By 1980, Stan's original Lafayette location and a small Front Street site in Louisville had outgrown their capacity. This prompted the construction of a new facility on South Boulder Road, strategically positioned between Lafayette and Louisville, to better serve both communities.
Since relocating to South Boulder Road, Stan's has grown with the community, evolving from a tire sales and light service operation into a state-of-the-art Complete Automotive Service Center. We now boast the latest computer diagnostic equipment and some of the nation's most highly trained technicians.
