Many of you have
dealt with Stan's for a lot of years. Few of you, however,
know "The Rest of the Story".
Stan Elmore and Wally Prather founded Stan's Tire Shoppe,
Inc. in Lafayette in 1973. Stan was fresh out of high school,
and was newly wed to his wife Donna. Stan had worked for
Wally at his George Oil gas station while in high school,
and after his graduation.
At this time, Wally was a major wholesaler of tires throughout
the Front Range, but had no retail outlet. Stan had no business
experience, except for a short stint as a grocery clerk
in his hometown of Lake Wales, Florida. What Stan did have,
however, was a vision. Stan saw a need for a retail tire
store in the Lafayette area. Wally had tires, and a suitable
location. A partnership was formed, and Stan's was born.
What Stan lacked in polish and business skills, he made
up for with pure determination and basic integrity and honest
business. Even as a young businessman, Stan was quick to
surround himself with outstanding people, who helped him
learn about business, and helped his business grow.
By 1980, Stan had outgrown his original location in Lafayette,
and another small location on Front Street in Louisville,
a decision was made to build a new building (our current
location) on South Boulder Road, in between Lafayette and
Louisville, so that both communities could be served.
Since coming to our location on South Boulder Road, Stan's
has continued to grow with the community, gradually changing
our focus from tire sales and light service work to a Complete
Automotive Service Center, with the latest in computer diagnostic
equipment, and some of the most highly trained technicians
in the nation.
